What happens if I blink or move during Lasik surgery?

< Back to FAQ

This is a common question. You should not worry about this.

Before the surgery, you will be given comfort eye drops which numb your eyes. These drops also reduce the urge to blink. During the procedure, your eyelids are held open with a small device, known as an eyelid holder, to prevent accidental blinking.

If your eye moves, the laser’s advanced tracking follows your eye and adjusts the laser for small involuntary movements. If you sneeze or abruptly move your body, the laser automatically turns off and once you are again settled, will precisely resume the procedure.

Nonetheless, it is still important for you to look at the flashing light during the procedure. This will help obtain excellent visual results! And remember that the whole procedure is very short - only about 15 minutes.

Most patients find the procedure painless, quick, less stressful and more comfortable than they expected. They say they would have had surgery sooner if they knew how easy it was!
