If you are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism, it may be because your cornea is steeper (nearsighted), flatter (farsighted) or irregularly shaped (astigmatism). In this situation, your cornea cannot reflect light back directly to your retina as it should and your vision is blurred as a result. Prescription contact lenses, can compensate for this abnormality and correct it so that you can see clearly.
If you suffer from presbyopia, you have trouble reading and focusing on objects up close. Dr. Feldman can prescribe one of two types of contact lenses to improve your near vision. One option is bifocal contact lenses, which are contacts specially designed to help your eyes see both up close and far away. They do this by blending different prescriptive powers onto different areas of the lens. The downside to bifocal contact lenses is that they can be difficult and time consuming to fit.
The second contact lens option for treating presbyopia is "monovision" contact lenses. Dr. Feldman simply prescribes two different contact lenses so one of your eyes can see well at a distance and the other eye can see clearly close up. Although monovision lenses can treat presbyopia, they can also decrease depth perception and sharpness of vision overall. Some people have a hard time adjusting to monovision
